Saturday 11th April , 10am to noon

Lord Combermere Car park.

Our Spring weather is all over the place and one day we are basking in the sunshine and its back to winter on the next day. We might have to batten down our market gazebo on Saturday otherwise it may do a "Marry Poppins" and disappear into the next county.

Most early sown tender vegetable seedings are needing some protection from the windy and cooler weather.

If you haven't planted your first early potatoes yet, or sown your broad beans, there is still time as the soil warms up, they will catch up.

Also the pollinators are struggling as much of the blossom has blown away when insects need the nectar and pollen to feed their family and the early fruit trees will be sparsely pollinated. These will be the damsons, plums and greengages.

On the market this first week will be

  • Local free range eggs packaged in all those recycled egg boxes received last week.
  • Apple juice, possibly early rhubarb a good choice of jams and chutneys.
  • Last week there was home made cake which sold out, so there will be more this week.
  • We should have a small amount of Honey and beeswax products.
  • The bedding plants just about survived those gales, so come and take your pick.
  • Also we will have some heritage tomato plants to choose from but far too tender to plant outside just yet.

Hoping to see you.
10am till noon at The Lord Combermere Car Park. Come rain or shine.
