It was happiness and cheer at Corbrook Court this week as resident Miss Kay Booth, celebrated her 100th birthday.

Born Kathleen Baxter Booth in the village of Haslington in Cheshire, she was the eldest of four children. Educated at Harrogate Ladies' College, she developed a great love of sports including tennis, cricket and golf and even now enjoys watching sports programmes on TV.

As a young woman, Kay, as she is known to her friends, travelled extensively throughout Europe visiting France, Switzerland, Austria and Norway. In wartime, the grounds of the family's home in Haslington became a focus for the work activities of German prisoners of war where Kay took responsibility for transporting them to and from work.

Her genuine interest in other people and her dedication to helping those in need led to her support of the Far East Prisoners of War Association (FEPOW) which she was involved with for many years.

Chief Executive of Morris Care, Sue Humphries commented, "Miss Booth has been a much valued resident during her four years with us. She is a vibrant, compassionate and independent lady, popular with both staff and residents alike."

She added "Miss Booth is regarded with much love and affection by all her family, friends and acquaintances and we wish her many happy returns on this special day."
