Campaigners have been praised for helping to bring Superfast Broadband a little closer to Audlem.
A big village push to get people to resister their interest in high speed Internet connection for the village reaped results as more than 50% signaled their support for the campaign.
Councillor Geoff Seddon heaped praise on campaigners who trawled telephone numbers, sifted email addresses and pressed local people to join the campaign.
He told a meeting of Audlem Parish Council: "We had a very good response to the campaign and quickly reached our target. Great thanks to everyone who helped to get this result."
There were fears that Audlem could miss out on any Superfast Broadband rollout in Cheshire.
At least 50% of residents needed to register an interest to ensure Audlem was included in proposed Superfast Broadband connection.
Audlem Parish Council chairman Phillip Johnson added: "The team was poring over data and chasing down post codes to make sure everyone was informed. The amount of work was astonishing."
Almost everyone in Audlem with a telephone connection was sent an email outlining the importance of signing up for the scheme. By the deadline date around 52% of Audlem was on board.
Cheshire East announced recently that high-speed fibre broadband will be rolled out to around 96% of Cheshire homes and businesses over the next three years under a £28.5m project between four Cheshire councils and BT.
Although it is still not absolutely certain that Audlem will be connected, its inclusion in the programme is now pretty much ensured thanks to the efforts of the campaign group.
High speed broadband connection will not only be a boon for local businesses but will means faster and better delivery of Internet entertainment services to homes throughout the Audlem area.
