An intriguing football match was set up when the draw for the SCYL Under 11s League Cup paired Division 1 leaders ASC Saints with Division 2 leaders LLD Dynamos.

The first half was played at a good pace and there was plenty of skill on display. It was LLD Dynamos that took the lead, deservedly so, with a well taken effort mid way through the half.

Saints kept playing neat football and created a few chances until finally a glancing header levelled the scores. One goal each would probably have been a fair reflection of the first half but right on the stroke of half time, Saints created another chance with some simple, quick passing and the ball was tucked away to give Saints a 2-1 lead.

The goal seemed to calm a few Saints' nerves and they asserted themselves in the second half, scoring 3 more goals without reply. They played simple, neat football. They created plenty of chances and good finishing put the game beyond LLD.

The Div 2 leaders deserve a lot of credit though- they played some very good football, defended very well and will have few problems in Division 1 when they get promoted. The 5-1 win puts Saints in the last eight of the cup.

Back to the League programme next week with a home game (at Alex Soccer Centre) vs Cougars, kick off 9.30.
