It is probably a little known fact that two of the boys who are on the WW1 memorial at Audlem Church were cousins.
Frances Emma Whitmore was the mother of Bertie Whitmore born 30th May 1896 and died age 20 on 2nd August 1916 and is buried in Mailly-Maillet cemetery France. My niece, Sara, visited his grave this summer.
Sister of Frances, Helen Alice (Whitmore) Lynes born Ellen whose son, George Lynes, born 1898, died 25th April 1918 at the second battle of Kemmel and commemorated at Tyne Cot Memorial, Belgium.
The Whitmore family lived at Lock House, Swanbach.
Donald Bates, distant cousin.
