Local MP Antoinette Sandbach joined fellow MP's recently at the launch of 'Singing for Syrians 2016'.

At the event, Antoinette found out more about what she could do locally to encourage constituents to get involved and support the cause in any way that they can.

Last year saw a very successful Carol Concert at Chester Cathedral to raise funds, and Ms Sandbach is keen to role this out to churches of all denominations across the Eddisbury constituency to raise as much money and awareness as possible.

All money raised will go towards funding medical teams on the ground in Aleppo and towards prosthetic limb clinics in the region. It is currently estimated that over 50,000 Syrians are amputees in urgent need of treatment.

£90,000 was raised last year with the support of match-funding from the Department for International Development, this year Ms Sandbach and other MP's want to see this increased with even more funds going to support the initiative and fund more life-saving work.

Canon Dussek of Chester Cathedral said: "It was very good to welcome Antoinette to the Cathedral last December for the Christian Aid 'Singing for Syrians' service. She highlighted the plight and suffering of millions of people and a year on the cause is as great as this crisis continues. We look forward to supporting this worthy appeal at Christmas and give thanks for all MP's working so hard to make a difference in bring Christ's light and love to those in Syria."

Ms Sandbach is asking all Churches, community groups, schools and clubs across the constituency who would like to host a charity event or Carol Concert on the 13th December to get in touch and contact her office.

Ms Sandbach commented: "Lots of people contacted me about Syrian refugees in Eddisbury, this is one small way that we can all help. Chester Cathedral raised over £1800 last year, if we can replicate their amazing effort all over Eddisbury I hope that we can collect even more for this very important cause."
