On Tuesday night this week the Shroppie Fly held its final quiz night of the season – the big charity night when big prizes were available and a raffle was held with items donated by many of the teams – and a good night was had by all.

Tony Lynch, who presided as quizmaster over the last 17 weeks, contacted us to say a big "thank-you" and to report on the success of the event. Each year a different charity is chosen to receive the proceeds of the event and this year it was the turn of the North West Air Ambulance service to benefit. Tony says:

"We have raised the magnificent total of £640 from the quizzes and this is the most we've ever raised. Over the run of the quiz season we had a total of 39 teams, many of whom came in from boats visiting the village along the canal. I'd like to thank everyone who took part, with a special mention to landlords Kate and Andy who bought the questions every week and who provided sandwiches on the big charity night. I'd also like to thank the winning teams who all donated their winnings to the charity. Their gesture was very much appreciated and I'm sure the North West Air Ambulance service will be very grateful"
