ASC Saints had last played a game on 6th Dec before returning after the Christmas/Snow break with a hard fought win, today, Sunday 17th January.
After a couple of postponed games, the opposition was actually the same team that had shocked Saints with a 3-2 win in that previous game, The Cougars.
This game was another good one and very close throughout. Saints probably played the more creative football and certainly they created a lot more chances. Attacking play was really great to watch – swift passes and good vision making for speedy breakaway thrusts.
A combination of good goalkeeping and the woodwork prevented Saints from scoring in the first half. To their credit though, they did not panic or try to change too much, simply continuing after the break with the same accurate passing game.
Saints continued to apply pressure but couldn't add to the tally. At the other end, the two boys in defence swept up any half chances and the goalkeeper did what good goalies do – he did all the simple things right and kept his concentration strong. Late into the game, when called upon to make his only serious save, he did it brilliantly.
With all the other league games called off due to water logging, the 1-0 win extended Saints lead at the top of the South Cheshire Youth League Under 11s Division 1.
Next week Saints are away to Crewe Terriers (Green Street , Sandbach, ko 11am)
