Last Tuesday saw the Audlem Wildlife and Ecology Group (AWEG) meeting at The Bridge with Martin Varley, the Conservation Director of Cheshire Wildlife Trust, giving a talk on the current work of the Trust.

AWEG aims to provide a focus in the village for those of us who are interested in our local wildlife, and as well as holding about six meetings each year and also arranging an annual programme of events to visit different sites.

On Wednesday came the sad news of Berni Cliffe losing her brave battle with cancer. Remarkably, instead of the normal 2,400 or so readers clicking on to AudlemOnline each day, an astounding 11,500 readers did, many drawn in by Facebook contacts of Terri and Hannah, Berni's daughters, from far and wide. Almost 12,000 readers have now clicked on to the announcement made that morning.

On Wednesday evening , ADAS held their annual general meeting which included the village awards with Andrew Smith of Audlem Post Office receiving the Citizen of the Year award, John Capper stepping up for the Property of the Year award and Sam Burdon of The Flower Divas receiving the Commercial Property award.

On Thursday, the Union flags that have been flying throughout Audlem village centre since the Spring, came down, soon to be replaced at the end of this month by some sixty illuminated Christmas trees for The Big Switch On.

Friday saw BBC North West Tonight visiting the village and broadcasting that evening a moving tribute to Berni while Ralph Warburton, who has worked on the Mend our Mum campaign and become very close to the Cliffe family, gave an emotional interview on BBC Radio Stoke.

Saturday saw a Long-ARS (Audlem Ramblers Society) walk on Cannock Chase whilst in the evening there was a very well attended showing of the film 'Suffragettes' in the Public Hall.

The coming week features a very special tasting night at Eleven Cheshire Street with all the businesses there laying on tastings, live music, offers and an opportunity to place Christmas orders, sometimes with a tempting discount.

Thursday sees the monthly Audlem District History Society meeting with Audlem's Methodist minister, Rev Jennifer Matthews, as the speaker.
