Vandals on a wrecking spree have left Audlem taxpayers with yet another bill to repair damage to the public toilets.

Audlem Parish council was told that vandals had removed handles and locks from cubicle doors of the Ladies and damaged the front door to the toilets on the main car park.

The main door jamb has also been damaged and will need considerable work to get back in working order.

Cllr. Dave Siddorns said: "The repairs will be expensive as the damage was considerable."

Cllr. Mike Hill said later it was clear from the damage that someone used tools to dismantle the locks and had a basic knowledge of engineering.

"This is evident when you see how the lock disassembly was undertaken and the parts left untidily on the floor. Obviously they had a good general knowledge as to the use of the necessary tools that would be required to achieve this, which was commendable."

"Being something of an engineer myself, I would recommend that those involved should consider taking a degree in engineering. Then they would know how to put it all back together. Thus saving the local tax payers having to foot the bill."

Better still, he added, to leave the toilets alone for the good of the village. "They are not to play in and they are not smoking dens either, " he added.

Police have asked anyone with information about the latest incident to get in touch by dialling 101.
