Audlem ward councillor Rachel Bailey has been elected, as had been expected, Leader of Cheshire East Council by her fellow councillors.

Labour proposed Damian Bailey for election, but Rachel Bailey won 53 votes compared to Damian Bailey's 17. Five councillors abstained.

Rachel takes over for a four year term and replaces Cllr Michael Jones who resigned a couple of months ago and whose term formally finished the day before yesterday's full council meeting.

Rachel Bailey's taking over follows her election as Cheshire East Conservative Group Leader in January.

AudlemOnline plans to meet with Rachel in the near future and bring you a detailed report on her priorities and thoughts on her new role which will certainly raise the profile of Audlem within Cheshire East.

Over recent years, Rachel was cabinet member with responsibility for Children and Families and last year took over responsibility for progressing Cheshire East's Local Plan.
