Lord C Quiz Nights

Last Tuesday we began a new year with our first quiz at the Lord Combermere. We had a very good attendance of over sixty-five quizzers (Ralph – do you mean that there were 65 of them, or that they were all over 65? – Ed) all keen to shake off the torpor of the festive season.

Prizes were well distributed with good efforts around the pub. Now we will be in place for the next 50 weeks, with some 3500 questions across all subjects and a good smattering of tie break teasers.

A total of 200 bottles of wine plus many pints of beers as prizes.

A time of good fun and also a test of your general knowledge. All are welcome. The charge is £1 a head and we raise a good surplus of about £800 to pay for a sumptuous buffet for all on December 17th.

Looking forward to presenting the quiz to you, helped by Dave of the Marina and Ian of Hankelow- plus trusty Bob.

New Year Firework display

And talking of December, may I remind all that if you wish to support my drive for the Firework display on New Years Eve, could you please leave your donation at the Lord C for my attention. Please make sure you have your name on the envelope so that I may acknowledge your act.

This year's display was very good and it was so nice to once more see the number of residents in the Square as the bells rang, the clock struck the hour of twelve and the sky was lit with magical stars etc. We began this tradition of the display as we entered the new millennium and since then, ADAS and ASET plus the Parish Council have superbly put up the funds. Now it is all down to us – the residents and friends.

A happy new year to all
