The Post Office – a personal thank you

The mail-related postal services that have been available through Audlem Post Office, as well as the pension payments, vehicle tax, passport applications and many other services which are (or were) supported by the Post Office will be greatly missed by many in the village.

There is another service which has been increasing over recent years which is the facility to pay in cash, particularly for charities.

As treasurer for various local charities and organisations over the years, it has always been a great help to have Andrew close by (literally next door in my case) to take in piles of money and deal with the procedure, which is of course different for each and every bank.

And Andrew has always been helpful and welcoming, even when I arrive breathless just as he is closing up, clutching a wodge of notes and a pile of coins.

The closure of the village Post Office seems to be part of a trend which puts the perceived efficiency of organisations (particularly financial organisations) first and the people whom they are supposed to service and support a long way second.
