BBC Radio Stoke's Cheshire reporter Lamont Howie has been in Audlem this afternoon and his report went out on the Stuart George programme a short time ago.

Lamont spoke to local residents who all said how upset they were about the closure as well as saying that AudlemOnline had seen over 4,000 readers clicking on the website in a period when there would normally be about 2,400.

He described how the Smith family had run the post office for three generations since the 1930s.

Post Office Limited, he reported, had said they apologised for the temporary closure of Audlem Post Office. They were working hard to restore the service as soon as possible and confirmed that they planned to maintain a presence in the village. They hoped that something would be in place by the middle of May.

Lamont had spoken with Andrew Smith, who confirmed this was the case and the Post Office had told him they wished to maintain a presence in the village, hopefully in the same premises.
