Welcome back to school for another new half term; I hope you all had a wonderful half term holiday. It was lovely to welcome all of the children back this week with the beautiful 'carpet' of Autumn leaves on the playground and to see the new learning starting in each classroom.
Last Monday, Governors and staff met to finalise and review our 2015/16 Strategic School Development Plan. This was a chance for our Subject Leads to share their plans and monitoring of subjects across school and for us to reflect on how far our school has come and what we are planning to work on together this year.
One of our key priorities in this year's plan is reading across school and this focus is reflected in a lovely display of class canvases created as part of our recent reading week in school, which are now displayed in school. Each class has created a special canvas celebrating a love of reading and books and this is a central theme we will be working on across school this year to ensure children in school become not only decoders of words and reading but avid and enthusiastic readers with a life long love of books.
Confident readers utilise many skills when reading; recognising letters, blending sounds to read increasingly more complex words, comprehending various elements of texts and making inferences about an author's intent to name just a few! This, coupled with pace and fluency encourages enjoyment and success in reading.
We will be holding a meeting for all EYFS and KS1 parents and carers on Monday 23rd November (from 4.00pm – 5.00pm) outlining how you can support your child with this aspect of their learning and to explain how we teach and develop early reading skills in school. I hope many of you are able to join us for this meeting.
Mrs Bird and two children from Diamond class, Jake and Rebecca, attended Cheshire East's Children's Rights conference on Friday. They have been working hard on the planning for this special event and have prepared a diary about a day in the life of a child based on their research about children who do not have access to all their rights such as attending school, food, warmth and shelter.
I have heard wonderful reports of how well Rebecca and Jake have represented our school during this project and I have been very impressed with ideas that all of Diamond class have contributed to this – well done! Thank you to Mrs Bird for organising this fabulous opportunity for her class to learn about.
Our Year 6 children were busy selling poppies in school last week ahead of Remembrance Day. This year we have also been supporting the British Legion by selling wristbands, colour pencils and other poppy products – which have sold like hot cakes! Poppies will continue to be on sale at break times each day until Wednesday 11th November.
Our busy School Parliament has planned a themed day on Friday 13th November to support Children in Need. They are asking children to come to school dressed as a Superhero from a comic or someone who is their hero e.g. a family member or a celebrity. I am sure we will all have some great ideas for inspiration!
We begin our new half term with four new Team Captains. Jordan Harding (Lime), Matthew Malkin (Oak), Abbie Bradbury Smith (Rowan) and Annie Lowe (Alder) are our new Year 6 Captains.
I am sure they will do a terrific job leading their teams and that all of the children will be trying hard to earn points for their teams this term. Good luck everyone!
As part of our continued focus on sports and active lifestyles in school, we are inviting parents and carers to join us for another Active Audlem session next Tuesday at 8.30am before school (please note the change of date from earlier in the year). Your child will have brought a flier home about this this week, please look out for it for more information. I hope many of you will be able to join us.
Congratulations and thank you to all involved in the Spooky Night Disco. The FASA team did a super job advertising and organising the event and the children were full of tales about 'Dr Terror and the Room of Doom' on Monday morning! I would also like to thank Mr and Mrs Marshall for their hard work with the disco. The event raised approximately £200, which will go towards supporting the school. Thanks to all of the parents and children who supported this event and made it such a success.
A reminder that FASA will be holding a Non uniform day on Friday 20th November to collect for 'Big Switch On' Tombola donations of bottles or chocolates for their stall in the village the following week.

We will be celebrating our special 'Our World Week' in school next week with a themed lunch designed by Mrs Hayward, our School Cook. This special lunch will take place on Thursday 12th November. Menus for this special lunch were sent out to all families before half term and can also be found in the newsletters section of the school website – please send payment for your child to take part in this special lunch into school by Tuesday 10th November to allow Mrs Hayward to prepare.
As of Monday 9th November, School's In, our school uniform supplier will relocate to 54 Hospital Street, Nantwich, CW5 5RP.
There has been a real chill in the air over the last few days and we have had to remind a number of children about the importance of wearing coats and jumpers to keep them warm outside. Please ensure your child/ren have jumpers and coats with them each day so they can enjoy outdoor break times whilst remaining warm. Thank you.
Can I remind all families of our healthy eating policy in school. Please ensure any snacks from home are fruit only – no chocolate bars or crisps please. We also encourage all children to eat healthily at lunchtimes and we ask that parents support us with this when sending packed lunches into school.
Our Parent Forum agenda has been finalised and sent out to all families this week, please send all slips, and any comments about agenda items you wish to contribute to the meeting, into school by Friday 13th November. I look forward to seeing you at the next meeting which takes place on Wednesday 18th November from 9.00am – 10.00am (refreshments available from 8.45am).
R Jewitt
