Greville Watts reports: "As yet another example of the good community spirit in Audlem, there was an excellent attendance at the exhibition in the Scout and Guide Hall on Saturday to launch the draft Village Design and Landscape Character statements.

"We counted approximately 150 through the doors in the five hours the exhibition was open, and there was much animated discussion over the maps, drawings and photographs, modern and historical. Sixty of the draft statements have now been distributed around the village, and although we shall be making minor changes and improvements in response to consultation, it is already evident that there is solid support for the core recommendations in relation to future development. Would village organisation secretaries who have not yet formally replied to Audlem Planning Group please do so within the next week or two.

"The children's artwork exhibition on the theme of "My Village" revealed abundant imagination and originality. It was very difficult to award a single prize in each age group, but book tokens go to Tom Rogers, Vyrnwy Benson and Bella Wilson, and chocolate bars to all the other entrants!

"The photo recognition competition proved to be challenging, but all-correct entries came from Ann Tilling, Richard Furber and Katy Edwards who are congratulated on their knowledge of the parish landscape and buildings. First out of the hat for the book token prize was Katy.

"Discussion with the local authority to obtaining official backing so that the document can become part of the planning system is our next task."

Greville Watts, Secretary to Audlem Planning Group.
