Parish Council Precept to Increase in April

At its last meeting, Audlem Parish Council set its precept for 2019/20 at £50,000, which is £10,460 more than the current level. This increase is purely to cover the repayment of the loan taken out from the Public Works Loan Board for the purchase of Turnpike Field.

At the presentations held in April 2018 various options were given as to how the repayment of a loan would affect the Parish Council element of the Council Tax. The subsequent Community Survey forms submitted during April and May indicated that most residents who responded would be prepared to pay amore in Council Tax to repay a loan of £250,000 over 40 years. This is a fixed interest loan, so that the amount will not change throughout the 40-year period.

The approximate increase in Parish Council element of the Council Tax will be 25%, which is exactly as predicted when views were sought from residents prior to putting in the bid for the field. For a Band D property the extra amount will be in the region of £10 to £12 per annum, depending on the increase in the number of occupied properties in the last year.

As more properties are built and occupied, the additional amount will reduce. So far, of the 200 plus additional properties scheduled to be built in Audlem between 2017 and 2030, approximately 25 – 30 are occupied.

A further update will be given when more information is available about the actual level of Council Tax.
