New speed watch scheme

The Parish Council were approached by our Police Community Support Officer to purchase a speed gun for £120 and have agreed to support a new speed watch scheme run by residents in the village. Volunteers will record the number plate and vehicle registration of offenders and give these to the police. We are trialling the scheme for 6 months in a bid to reduce speeding in the village which is a concern to residents and Councillors alike. Other parishes in Cheshire East have seen a reduction in speeding by running a similar community speed watch. Flooding

We are working closely with Ward Councillor Rachel Bailey, Cheshire East Council and residents to address flooding problems in the Audlem area.

Grants

Two grants have been awarded this month. One grant of £300 was awarded to TAVA (Touring and Visiting Arts) who will be hosting two professional arts events in Audlem and organising workshops for children. A second grant of £1,500 was awarded to Audlem Music & Arts Festival who put on a five-day festival from 20th to 26th May. This free and friendly festival brings over 80 top acts to perform in the village and is now in its 20th year.

Working closely with the community

The community working group are working to strengthen bonds with all village groups and committees and will shortly be contacting them to see how they can work closely with the Parish Council and deliver benefits and improvements to our community.

Assistant Parish Clerk

The recruitment of an Assistant Parish Clerk to support our Parish Clerk Bee is well underway and the application closing date is drawing near on 14th February. Councillors will decide on a shortlist of candidates on 18th February and interviews will be held on Monday 24th. Office base

The Parish Council has set up a subgroup to look at the feasibility of having an office base in the village potentially one morning a week. The study will look at the financial costs and staffing implications.

VE Day

This year the 8th May marks the 75-year anniversary since the guns fell silent at the end of the war in Europe. The Parish Council will be applying to Cheshire East Council for a £250 grant towards preparations for the important celebration of VE day.
