Overwater marina's Open Day

Hardy souls enjoyed gloriously sunny days to walk to the Overwater Marina's Open Days on Saturday and Sunday.

There was much to see with the Audlem Boat Company showing visitors around their workshop; Welsh cheeses, pickles and chutneys on sale from the Cheese Boat which is moored at the marina for the winter and, of course, refreshments in the marina's Coffee Lounge, warmed by a blazing log fire.

For those that have not been to the marina, the reception area and Coffee lounge is in the building to the right in the middle foreground. The Audlem Boat Company is over to the left.

The towpath to the right is subject to bids for funding by the Parish Plan group, working with British Waterways, to hardcore the towpath which gets very muddy in wet weather. Bids have been submitted recently to the Northern Marches Leader fund; Visit Chester & Cheshire and Cheshire East.

The towpath is now the southern section of the Weaver Way which was opened in 2008 in at Audlem Wharf and is a long-distance path from the village to Frodsham in the far north of Cheshire.

In the Spring it is planned to launch a new attraction on the canal – announced on Audlem Online on 30th October (click on the link below the photo) – which will provide boat trips from the bottom of Audlem locks to the marina and on to the Secret Bunker at Hack Green, a couple of miles further north. There will be occasional trips to Audlem itself through the locks and northwards to Nantwich.
