One pothole success – but for how long?

A local campaigner, who has been pressing Cheshire East to repair the large pothole near the centre of the road in Shropshire Street outside the undertakers, was pleased to see the council had at long last tipped some tarmac into the troublesome hole.

Peter Oxley, who has phoned and emailed the council on numerous occasions, says: "I'm delighted to read on Audlem Online that they have at last filled in the 'funeral director's' trench! That will be the five phone calls and three emails I made to Cheshire East about it then.

"Last Thursday afternoon," Peter says, "they allegedly sent the chief Engineer, a lady called Kate Warburton, (whom I spoke to) and another senior Cheshire East engineer, who also inspected the poor road surface outside the Coop, though she hasn't rung back to let me know the outcome as yet.

"Sadly I think that this inspection would have had more impact after 4.00pm that day when it rained a lot. "

Pleased however about the repair, he adds jokingly: "Perhaps we will now name 'my' repair as 'Peter's Plug'?"

Others who have contacted Audlem Online are less than impressed with the quality and likely effectiveness of the repair. CJB says on the Chatbox: "The state of that repair, it would surprise me if it would last the day."

In a reference to our pothole fishing photo yesterday, which we are pleased to repeat today, he adds: "Editor, have the fisherman on standby as I reckon he may be in with a chance. Better just be careful, though, he does not get flattened by one of the lorries going past!"

Audlem Online has been gathering ideas that could turn our potholes into lucrative local businesses. Our first ideas will be published shortly – our fisherman could well be acting as an inspiration!

If you have ideas that could put the local potholes to good use, please let us know via the Chatbox or email editor@audlem.org">editor@audlem.org
