Marvellous Marrows and so much more

We welcomed everyone back for our final half term of the year on Monday, this half term is tremendously busy with lots of exciting events planned in school.

Our week began with a special assembly with Bryony and Mike who came to speak to us all about our special marrow growing challenge! ADAS have provided young plants for all of the children to see how well we can get each one to grow. I can't wait to see the results after the summer holidays!

Amber class visited Saturn boat on Tuesday afternoon as part of their work on 'Water and the Weather'. They braved very wet weather but despite it being a rather 'soggy' weather afternoon, they all learnt lots of interesting things about how the boat was used in the past. Here is what some of the children have to say about their experience:

  • Lucy : 'On Tuesday we went on a school trip to the canal in Audlem. I thought it was really fascinating.' Amelie: 'My favourite bit was when we learnt about the horses, and how they pulled Saturn Boat.'
  • Sam: 'Everyone enjoyed the trip, even though the weather wasn't on our side!'

Our Key Stage 2 classes had a special visit from Wendy Lavin on Wednesday. Wendy works
for Parliament's Education Service and she worked with all of the children in activities based on introducing the work of Parliament, making laws, elections, voting and debating.

All of the children were enthusiastic participants in their role play of Parliamentary debates! Wendy was very impressed with the children's ideas and confidence in expressing their views in the sessions she commented:
"There were some good questions and the debates were fantastic. I was particularly impressed with the language the pupils used and the way they were able to confidently and convincingly deliver their arguments."

Congratulations to Rebecca Dutton who has successfully completed 20k on our Active Audlem circuit. Well done!

They are also planning a Film Night on Thursday 26th June, these nights are usually very popular, please look out for more details soon.

A reminder that our Summer Fair will be held on 3rd July. Please look out for more details in future newsletters. Don't forget the Rag Bag bin in school, if you have any old clothes, shoes or covers that you are happy to donate, please bag them up and put them into the bin for FASA to generate funds for school.

ABC Childcare

ABC are keen to hear from parents and carers about their anticipated childcare needs from September and their views on ABC provision. A short questionnaire has been sent to all parents to complete and return it to school if they can. Thanks for your support with this.

Mary's Meals Backpack Appeal

Thank you to all of the families who have already donated items for this appeal. We are collecting until Friday 13th June so there is still time to send in any items from the list send out before half term for this.

Contacting Governors

We would always encourage parents to discuss any concerns or worries with their child's class teacher in the first instance. If they wish to discuss any concerns further they are asked to contact myself.

From time to time, parents may wish to contact Governors to discuss an aspect of school life following on from discussions with myself and/or their child's class teacher. The best way to do this is either in writing (via our school office) in an envelope marked for the attention of our Chair of Governors, Janet Furber; or in person at one of our drop in sessions at Parent Evenings and Open Evenings. Teaching staff, Governors and I are always keen to listen to parent and carer's views.

NEP Preparing for High School Workshop for Parents

Year 6 parents will have received a letter about this workshop being held at our school next Wednesday (11th June). The session is being led by staff from Nantwich Children's Centre and the NEP's Education Outreach Worker, Ian Murfitt. I hope many of our Year 6 parents will be able to join us for this. Please return the reply slip to school by Tuesday 10th if you are able to attend.

NEP Skoolsfest 2014

After the success of last year's event, the Nantwich Education Partnership (NEP) are holding the second SKOOLSFEST festival later this month. It will take place on Saturday 28th June in various venues around Nantwich. The festival is a celebration of the arts and seeks to emphasise their importance in the education of all Nantwich pupils, whatever their age or stage in education.

All 16 schools (14 Primary and 2 High schools) will be taking part and showcasing all that is wonderful about the arts and education in our town.

Our school will be displaying art work at Nantwich Museum centred around the theme 'People of Nantwich' and joining in with singing as part of a joint schools choir. Diamond class have also prepared drama work to share as part of the festival. The day will include a range of timetabled events around Nantwich, including meeting the author Rachel Lindsay at Nantwich Library (see attached flier). I hope many of you will be able to join us there.

Finally

Our Sports Day will be held next Thursday (12th June) from 9.15am – 11.30am, as far as possible, we will aim to go ahead with this even if the weather is not as sunny as we would like.

If we do need to postpone because of wet weather we will update our message board on the main school number and send out a message on our school website front page as soon as that decision has been taken. We will also display message boards around the entrances to school in time for drop off time on that day.
