Wonderful Work to Celebrate and Share!

We have had so many exciting and wonderful things happening this week I don't really know where to begin!

Willow Weave week has been a great success with children, parents and staff creating some wonderful art and structures which have made an immediate impact on our outdoor environment. Thanks to all of the many parents and volunteers who have given up their time to help with our willow workshops this week.

A special thank you to Ebony Jo's dad in Sapphire class, for donating the bark chippings for the structure. It has been wonderful to see adults and children working together so well to create work to be very proud of!

Diamond Class shared some of their work from the year so far during their class assembly for parents yesterday. The children had written and developed the ideas themselves and their creativity and great imaginations really shone through!

They shared dance, drama, poetry, pieces of writing, Powerpoints and more, in a fabulous celebration of their talents and skills – they really did 'Let their lights shine'! Well done to all of the children and Mrs Heathcock for showcasing your work so well.

Sapphire class visited Reverend Helen at St James' Church on Monday. The children looked at special symbols, asked questions about the Church and were told about the stained glass letters that made the word Audlem. This was a wonderful way to bring their Religious Education work to life and I know they learnt a lot from their experience!

Last Friday our Year 4 children attended an exciting training event to become Junior Song Leaders at playtimes. The project gives the children skills in leading modern variations on more traditional, musical playground games and aims to strengthen peer relationships, encourage children to mix socially and above all have fun to taking part in something new together.

The children have been keen to put their new skills into practise this week and
it is proving to be fun, if a little infectious with even the teachers joining in! The children are now our ambassadors for this exciting project and I know they will do a wonderful job with Miss Johnson over the next few weeks and months.

Mrs Standley has been encouraging all of our EYFS and Key Stage one children to become expert bird spotters this week as part of the RSPB Big Schools Birdwatch. Amethyst, Sapphire and Pearl classes have been using a bird hide to spot and record the birds visiting our grounds and using our bird feeders. All of our results will be added to the Big Garden Birdwatch which is the world's biggest Birdwatch.

Ruby class have been working hard on their Dragon's Den project, which is designed to develop team work and to give children a hands on experience of what it would be like to work in a business. The children have used their ICT and public speaking skills this week to present a review of their experiences to three 'dragons' from local businesses.

The winners of 'Best Product' were Ice Bears and the overall winners were WCD (Wicked Christmas Decorations).

WCD are now through to the finals, held at Brine Leas on 7th February, where they will be competing against the winners from other schools. Miss Johnson has been especially impressed with the children's creativity. This is what some of the children have said about the experience:
"I really enjoyed it because we all got on well as a team." Riley
"It was an amazing experience and I would love to rewind and do it all again!" Molly
"I enjoyed this because it gives you a chance to sell things which you wouldn't get to
do until you're older." Ruby

Good Luck!

Two of our football teams have gone to represent our school at the Crewe Alex Community Cup competition at the Alexandra soccer centre today. I wish them lots of luck and look forward to updating you about how they get on next week.

FASA

The date for the Spring Term Disco has been finalised – the discos will be held on Thursday 13th February, with Key Stage One running from 5pm – 6pm and Key Stage 2 from 6.15pm – 7.30pm. Admission is £2.00 and there will be hot dogs and other refreshments on sale at both discos.

FASA are also busy planning a Parent Disco – this will be held on 9th May, look out for further details in newsletters over the coming weeks.

Parking

Following on from my message regarding parking outside school last week, our local PCSO, Nick Jarvis, has contacted me to further urge those parents and carers who use cars at pick up and drop off times to ensure they park safely.

Little Red Riding Hood

The Audlem 5As pantomime will be performed at the Public Hall next week. Several children from our school are performing and they are keen to have a big audience!! Two of the children performing, Molly and Cecile from Diamond class, wanted to send this message:
"Many tickets are still available, so round up, round up and come to watch a fabulous performance before it's too late!"

The shows run from Wednesday 29th January to Saturday 1st February. There is a matinee at 2pm on Saturday before the evening performance at 7.30pm. Tickets are available from May Hunter on 01270 811145.
