A film crew will be in Audlem next Sunday and Monday. They will be at Audlem Mill for some of the time, where filming will concentrate on two Audlem residents and their work – the amazing Steampunk costumes by Monique Hollinshead, and Jane Marshall's Roses & Castles canal boat painting, and her new book on the subject.

Steampunk costumes

Monique's costumes have been on display at Audlem Mill since late May, and will still be there until the end of July, so there's still plenty of time to see them.

The full size costumes really do have to be seen -- they are imaginative, intriguing and beautifully crafted. There's Mrs & Mrs Sherlock Holmes, Cruella de Vil, a boatman and boatwoman, and four others. Each costume has a story board to tell you something about it, and draw your attention to the details. Cruella's buttons are in the shape of dogs' noses!

Roses & Castles

Jane lives at The Old Stables at the bottom of the canal locks, and with husband Pete they are the Day-Star Theatre, who have put on several plays at the Scout and Guide Hall in the recent past. But Jane also paints canal boat decoration, known as Roses & Castles, and runs courses on it.

Her book, which covers the two hundred years of canal history, also provides a very practical guide on how to paint the roses and castles on to water cans, furniture, boats etc. The book, published by CanalBookShop at Audlem Mill only a few weeks ago, is selling very well.
