As we reported on Tuesday, it's a big day today at Cheshire East Council and, in particular, for Audlem councillor Rachel Bailey.

It's the council's Cabinet meeting today when a major item on a busy agenda will be the election of a new leader of the council following the resignation of Cllr Michael Jones.

Audlem's councillor, Rachel Bailey, is hot favourite as she has already been made leader of the Conservative group on Cheshire East council and the party has a large majority. There are currently 53 Conservative members, 16 Labour and 13 from other parties or groups.

The meeting will be discussing a number of major issues including the council's budget, the Local Plan, the election of the Mayor and Deputy Mayor for the 2016/17 Civic Year as well as the election of the council leader.

We will bring you news about the new Council Leader when we have it.
