Audlem 2nd XI lost their third game in a row yesterday at Port Sunlight as they slipped to seventh place in Division 5 of the Cheshire Cricket Alliance. With just four games to go they need to regain the winning habit in order to make any impression on the leading pack and vie for promotion.

Skipper John Wainwright won the toss and elected to bat on what looked a good batting track. However Audlem's batsmen struggled against some fine bowling from Port Sunlight's opening attack of Liam Crosby and Lewis Ramsden. The wicket helped the youthful seamers, who both found a line and length to trouble all the batsmen as Audlem struggled to a paltry 103 for 8 off their allotted 48 overs. Only opener Andy Dale (22), Norman Hindle (18 not out) and Olly Burney (14) managed to get into double figures

When the home side batted after tea, Audlem's bowlers found the conditions equally to their liking. However with such a small total to defend they were always up against it. Youngster Burney bowled his spell of 6 overs for only 9 runs, but faced with such a small total the opposition batsmen were able to bide their time. They duly knocked off the runs, scoring 106 for 2 and ran out easy winners by 8 wickets with 8 overs to spare. Dale and Roy Wild were Audlem's wicket takers.

The 2nd XI are hoping for better things next week when they travel to basement team Capenhurst for their fourth consecutive away game.

Audlem 1st XI's game against Sandbach is being played at the Gorse Croft ground this afternoon, starting at 2pm. Second-placed Mossley could only manage a draw yesterday, so why not go along to see if they can extend their lead at the top of Division 3?
