Review of November's Audlem History Society talk

The final talk for this year was given by Jeremy Nicholls on behalf of John Hickson, the author ofa book of local photographs entitled "Nantwich : 50 years of change".

Jeremy chose 80 photos (all black and white) that John had taken of Nantwich streets and buildings from 1969 to 2019. The evening's format was rather different from our usual talks, as the packed audience was invited to participate throughout the evening with their reminiscences, and to call out information pertaining to the photographs.

This made for a very lively session, as Jeremy had chosen a selection of photos mainly from the 60s onwards until the 80s, but covering all the main areas of the town. The audience was fascinated by the lack of traffic in the streets, and especially by the dearth of potholes!

It was Jeremy's last session as Chair of Audlem History Society as he's stepping down after 5 years. The new Chair, Charles Cavill, presented Jeremy with a book token and wine from the Committeemembers to thank him for all his hard work, especially during the lockdown period.

The next meeting of the Society will be held on 18th January, 2024, and the "Christmas" meal is booked for the 7th February at the White Lion, Hankelow.
