The idea started with a £10 win in the ADCA 20-week draw for Mary Protheroe, a member of the ADCA Tuesday Club. She donated the money to the Mend Our Mum appeal which is raising money to help treat local Mum, Berni.
The other members of the Tuesday Club took up the idea, led by Mary, and organised a bring-and-buy sale, firstly at the Tuesday Club itself and then at the ADCA Friday morning coffee club as well.
All this resulted in the amazing total of £420, and the picture shows Mary presenting a cheque for this amount to Dorothy Hughes (also a member of the Tuesday Club and Berni's Mum) to contribute towards the Mend Our Mum Appeal, with ADCA Chairman Roger Millns lurking in the background.
Local Mum Berni was diagnosed with a rare gall bladder cancer several months ago. The cancer is not curable but it is treatable. However, due to an NHS technicality, the drug that she needs to accompany her chemo is not currently funded by the NHS.
Daughters Hannah and Terri have been working tirelessly to raise the required £50K for the drug and well over £10,000 has already been raised.
