Audlem motorists hoping for an end to extensive roadworks on the main route into Nantwich face disappointment.

Sewer works being carried out on the Wellington Road look set to take nearly two weeks longer than forecast.

The roadworks were scheduled to end in about two weeks time on September 10th. But work on replacing the sewers will probably not finish until September 23rd.

United Utilities blame the delay on workers finding an extra sewer that was not marked on their maps of the area.

Cheshire East Council also plans to have road contractors start immediately on resurfacing the road after sewer work is finished rather than wait to do it at a later date.

The delay could affect pupils of Brine Lees and Malbank schools when the Autumn term starts on September 2nd.

United Utilities was given the go-ahead to carry out the works over the school summer holidays in order to minimise traffic disruption but more hold-ups can be expected when the school holidays end.

Pupils at Brine Lees could face delays just yards from the school gates at the traffic lights on the Peter de Stapleigh Way junction where traffic is being diverted along Elwood Way and into London Road.

The Wellington Road has been closed for six weeks between Station Road and Parkfield Drive as work continues to replace sewers and rid local homes of long-term flooding problems.
