A Mid-ARS (Audlem Ramblers Society) walk is scheduled for this Saturday. Chris Proctor's is leading it and this his description:-

The Mid-ARS walk this Saturday is a figure of 8 walk along the Roaches, taking in Hen Cloud at one end and Lud's Church at the other.

The walk starts from the car parking on the lane below Rockhal from Upper Hulme, and passes behind the Roaches House and up onto Hen Cloud, where we get grand views south to Tittesworth Reservoir and north back to Ramshaw Rocks.

Then we go down and up past the rock climbers onto the Roaches proper and follow the skyline past little Doxey Pool and down to cross the road at Roach End. Along the way, views extend over the Staffordshire Moorlands and into the Cheshire Plain.

From here we have another lovely descending ridge walk which scoops round behind and then through the spooky Lud's Church. From here we regain the ridge and a gentle stroll back down the road to the car park.

The walk is mainly along ridges and paths with a couple of short ascents, and is about 8 miles with 500 feet of ascent. The terrain underfoot is a mixture of smooth and rocky paths, and is boggy around Lud's Church. All in all, a good value 3-booter.

Meet at Audlem car park at 8.30am.

NB All walkers must have suitable footwear and be prepared for adverse weather, carry food and water to last for the entire walk and be suitably fit for the various lengths of walk.

Each walk is led by a nominated leader who will carry some first-aid equipment. The leader has the right to refuse to include in a group anyone who is felt not be adequately equipped.
