I recently had a conversation with a couple of friends, full of enthusiasm for the up-coming Audlem 2014 Music and Arts festival.
The talk turned to some of the many bands that have played, and to some of the classic moments and performances that have played out over the years.
One such band was Modern Alarms, a band the village took to their hearts over the last couple of years, memorable songs and even more memorable performances at the Lord Combermere, Chilli nights and the Festival.
I had to say that Modern Alarms were sadly no more Modern Alarms, and reiterated the farewell from the band that had appeared on social media sites, a piece that was written in true MA style.
I realised then that not all their Audlem fans may well have had access to this, so here it is, an apt tale for the season:
"Modern Alarms a medium of expression started by Dom and Fray over 4 years ago, it snowballed into a band.... sometimes the snow lay heavy and thick, beautiful scenes of glittering rooftops and shimmering flower beds.
"Other days the sun shone, thawed at the ground slowly melting a belief of abundance and exposing patches of earth well worn underfoot. We didn't let our little snowball melt.
"Defiant and reckless we belied that the chill through 4 layers would return the schools pipes would freeze and a SNOW DAY! would be declared!
"Jack Frost played his master stroke when he glazed that day... Colm and Gleds stepped and together threw snowballs like know-one had ever seen! handful by frozen handful we scooped and we threw! we scooped and we threw!! we scooped and we threw!!!....until we scooped and realized we ourselves had exposed that same dirt we had forsaken in the days of sun to protect our snowball.... with our hands cold and muddied, our breaths short and deep what do we do now we have hit the underneath?
"We took a moment to think.... why wait just for the glory of a Snowday? As mythical and beautiful as it is it's only one day and with proper insulation it really should never happen.
"The thrill of a cold-snap will always be with us, the chill in the fingertips has rooted deep and our hair will always be indented with the brim of our bobble hats but we feel now that we have amassed a greater wardrobe. Garments tailored to our own tastes our new robes will shine everyday.
"We thank every one of you that played pretty with us together. Our decision is made and our journey into the exposed ground begins together...x
thanks for the memories and your support.... x
lots of love
Dom, Fray, Colm, Gleds"
Personally I believe that this will not be the end of the boys, look out for 'We were Modern Alarms'.
