Despite competition from the Chapel production, the audience at this month's Audlem District History Society's meeting was up to normal size due to several visitors eager to hear the talk on Lord Combermere.

Dinah Andrew gave a sterling performance but in fact has material to use in two more talks. So, she is hoping to do a series of three talks at Nantwich museum on Wednesday afternoons in April. Further details later.

She drew a vivid picture of the celebrations at Whitchurch who could claim two of the major leaders in the Peninsular war – Lord Hill of Hawkestone and Lord Combermere.

This was accompanied by a rendition of songs sung at the time, led by John Hardy and Ian Bloor.
