Dinah Andrew stepped in at the last minute to give a talk on Lord Combermere: The Book at the first meeting of 2014 for Audlem District History Society.
As usual, Dinah proved to be engaging, entertaining yet informative as she told how she first came to be interested in Lord Combermere on moving into Audlem in the 70s.
First doing research in Nantwich and then Chester before finally acquiring the two digitally produced volumes (with all their quirks) of Memoirs and Correspondence of Field Marshall Viscount Combermere by his widow Mary and Captain W. W. Knollys, her research developed into an hour's talk that then grew into a series of three talks.
Having amassed a wealth of material spurred Dinah on to think about creating a book. However, she quickly realised the difference between giving a talk and writing a book and that her text would need illustrations.
Dinah amused everyone present by relating her struggles to work out how to assemble pages in a book; which way round to put maps etc. and how her husband David and herself spent several hours trying to take the photograph featured on the front cover.
She thanked several people who had helped her with this task in particular Myra Logan for help in assembling material and Peter Silvester for advice on printing.
Dinah ended her talk by recounting proudly how, recently, the Dictionary of National Biography have taken on board her research in their account of the life of Lord Combermere.
Well- deserved recognition for all her extremely hard work.
