The Long-ARS (Audlem Ramblers Society) walk next Saturday is a circular walk around the Churnet Valley of approximately 11 miles and comes with the luxury of two toilets en-route! (Three if you count the facilities at The Ramblers Retreat Café).
We start from the car park at Froghall Wharf (interesting spot with lots of history and with public conveniences) and climb up the old tramway before heading over to Whiston. Then we cross to the Staffordshire Moorland Walk and head southwards to Oakamoor which would be a good spot to stop and eat our lunch. 2nd toilets here.
We then pick up the old railway and head down to Lord's Bridge, where nearby is the Ramblers Retreat (possible ice cream stop?) Here we pick up the Staffordshire Way and slowly head northwards mainly through woodland to start with. Eventually we emerge and the last few miles are by the river until we return to Froghall.
When we recce'd the walk just under 4 weeks ago it was a bit muddy an places but has hopefully dried out a bit now. Some interesting wildflowers were around in some areas. Some stiles and sheep around in places.
Some climbing but most of the pull ups aren't too bad.
Meet Audlem car park Saturday 14th May for an 8.30 start.
