Village Man Stages a 'Great Glen Race'

Local Sam Morley is set to race a kayaker 80 miles across Scotland by foot.
Over May bank holiday weekend, the Cheshire duo will be undertaking an epic 2-day endurance race from Fort William to Inverness. Sam, 23, from Audlem will be running the hilly 80-miles whilst Jonny, 21, from Neston will be chasing him by kayak along the lochs. The event is in support of a water and sanitation charity called Dig Deep and they are hoping to raise £1000 for the cause.

'It started as a ridiculous pub discussion that got out of hand', Sam says. 'Who would win in a race between a runner and a kayaker? Once you factor in the wind, the changing tide, the temperature, running up and down the hills and carrying your kayak around the locks, suddenly it becomes a very unpredictable race. We've been training hard and are really excited to get out there and push ourselves to the limit for this amazing cause.'

Dig Deep is an amazing charity that works on the ground as a non-profit organisation providing clean water and sanitation to deprived rural areas in the counties of Narok and Bomet in the southwest of Kenya. They have a simple strategy creating taps, toilets and providing training. This '3Ts' strategy helps provide sustained benefits for people in the region through a clean water supply and safe composting toilets, as well as fully training staff and students at local schools.
