At Monday evening's Parish Council meeting, local residents Richard Myatt and Hilary Serif spoke in the Public Forum about the planning application for a new goods entrance to The Parkes.

The Parish Council voted unanimously to oppose the planning application on the grounds of Highway Safety; Impact on Open Countryside; Environmental Issues – drainage and road collapse.

The Parish Council also recommended that Cheshire East councillors make a site visit to see what the issues are before deciding on this application.

Last week, Hilary Serif posted the story below and this captures the essence of what was said in the Public Forum on Monday evening.

Keep Monks Lane Free & Safe
Free from articulated lorries
Free from Danger
Safe for the local community

On the 5th of November a planning application, by Jo Heller, was applied for the installation of an Agricultural farm track/drive (a Heavy goods entrance) for The Parkes in the middle of Monks Lane.

The proposed entrance is approximately 100 yards along from Hope Cottage and Ivy House – see second illustration which can be expanded by clicking on it.

This proposal will mean that articulated lorries (or agricultural vehicles) will no longer enter at 'The Parkes' main entrance, but come further down the road, around the blind corner at The Parkes and at Mill House.

This will cause a real danger to local traffic, school children, walkers, horse riders and cyclists.

As the local community are aware it is already difficult for cars to pass each other and if walking you have to climb into the verge to avoid vehicles, this danger would dramatically increase with heavy goods vehicles.

At present Monks Lane is the only safe route for walkers/cyclists from Hankelow to Audlem, as there are no pavements on the main road. The installation of this entrance would mean there would be no safe way to walk/cycle.

We are asking for as many people as possible to comment/object to this planning application to ensure that it does not receive approval.

The easiest way to comment is to go to www.cheshireeast.gov.uk/planning put the reference number 14/5155N or Monks Lane , and then there is a link on this page for your comments. The deadline for submitting your comments/objections is the 17th December..

If anybody has any further questions which they would like to discuss about this planning please contact me (Hilary Serif) on 01270 812413 or email Hilary.wymer@hotmail.com
