Jessie's Winter Poem

Another season ahead of us
Another season fades
We all know cold weather approaches
This is the season we call winter!

It advances with a chill
A chill almost beyond compare
With its bleak, cold, frigid
Scant, freezing and gelid air

It comes with a beauty
If we can look further -
The hoar frosts appear.
Laying, clinging, upon the countryside.
Hedges, walls, trees- a true wonder,
Beauty, once more at its best -
Thanks to mother nature.

As the age old annals tell us -
"after a hoar frost expect rain"
Some truth in this!
But we will wait and see
If this one is true -
"A ring around the moon
On a clear, bright night
Means snow."

The air before the snow,
Becomes still, quiet,
Then soft feathery flakes begin to fall,
Floating slowly at first, settling, everywhere in sight,
Turning the land into a carpet of white.
Winter is coming -
Let us all enjoy!
