In love with the Llyn – Y Bwthyn

Sunbeams stream through a sea sprayed bwthyn window,
Its thick granite walls having witnessed many tides.
Light rests on wind-dried basketed logs brought in for autumn months,
While silver velvet waves break on to golden sands,
Curlews call high, gorse shimmers in the evening light
And Ynys Enlli floats darkly on the distant rippling sea.

Blue and white china stands on a cherished dresser,
Where nautical themed treasures are carefully placed.
On a small table a cornucopia of sea shells sits curiously still on its polished top.
The stove, unlit on this late summer evening
Is dressed with driftwood, parched, sun bleached and shapely,
While the clock on its mantel ticks by the lazy summer hours.

Seagulls cry starkly overhead as the sun slowly sets on this seaside day.
Evening light changes from silver to gold over a calm deserted bay.
The sea sparkling with crystals of myriad colours,
While on the horizon, there moves the slow black shape
Of a lone ship, its cargo, crew and destination unknown.

Thrift blows freely in the gentle breeze as grasses move like mimicking waves.
Over long ridges of dunes built by centuries of seas pounding stone,
Wintery whistling winds and grains of sand.

Soft sliding paths follow routes of day trippers in an undulating maze,
Leading steeply downward to shingle,
Where at the beachcomber's edge, watery footprints gently fade as the tide creeps slowly in.
