There was a massive turnout last night for the ever popular Carols in the Square organised by ADAS, the Audlem District Amenities Society.

Crewe Brass, who have played at this event for over a quarter of a century, were on fine form on a pleasantly dry and mild night, a welcome break from the recent rain – see our story this morning showing the River Weaver in flood.

Bill Consterdine, compere on the microphone, entertained between the Carols reminding all of the village's recent awards in Britain in Bloom and Loo of the Year and notably, nearby Hankelow's recent success in being named Cheshire Village of the Year.

The Mayor and Mayoress of Cheshire East attended and how good it was to see them in the Lord Combermere afterwards enjoying village conviviality at its best. The pub had supplied hot soup to many in the crowd while Santa Claus was distributing sweets and good wishes to the younger attendees.

Our thanks, as always, to Phil Baker for the photos. You can enlarge them, of course, by clicking on each photo.
