About the Tree Protection Order (TPO) articles published recently, many years ago in the 1970s, as a parish councillor, I went round the Parish with the Cheshire County Tree Officer.
This resulted in a large number of trees being 'protected'. Some the finest were ancient yews in the old vicarage. Then the Council compulsory purchased the site to push through the inner relief road. This plan for the road was quashed when we formed ADAS, the Audlem District Amenities Society.
So the Council sold off the site for building and took off the TPOs (!), as only they could, to maximise the land's saleability.
