Ten days ago, Audlem Online reported on Queenie, the horse that pulled the 10 ton working boat called Gifford, which stopped off at Audlem on its journey southwards. The horse and the 72 foot historic narrowboat, on loan from the Ellesmere Port Boat Museum, were travelling to Oldbury where the boat went on display to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the closure of the Oldbury Boatyard where Gifford was built 80 years ago.

Gifford is now on its northbound journey and spent last night moored in Audlem above Lock 12 from where it will continue its journey northwards to Ellesmere Port. This trip, however, appears to be with the towing help of another boat rather than horse-power. If you have a chance this morning, it's well worth keeping an eye out for this fine old working barge.
