Tina Jones of Partnership Support Manager, Cheshire East Partnerships Team has sent the following suggestion:-

We are very excited to share with you news of a new annual competition and the launch of the Great British High Street of the Year Awards.

More information follows and you can also find information on the Great British High Street website. We know that towns and villages within Cheshire East are more than worthy for this award and would encourage you to apply.

The Great British High Street of the Year Awards is a new annual competition inviting local partnerships to nominate a high street in their area to celebrate the diversity and services that British shopping parades provide.

The Awards provide a national platform to

  • showcase success stories and share best practice.
  • showcase the diversity of how places are servicing local needs.
  • give the public the opportunity to celebrate and endorse their local high street and make the most of what it has to offer
  • recognise the excellent effort of town teams, the business community, local authorities, the charitable sector and volunteers, and other key partners, in achieving the above successes.

If Audlem were to enter, it would presumably be in the Village or Community category.

All category winners will receive a branding toolkit featuring their title as 'Great British High Street of the Year 2014'. This branding can be used at the winning Town Team's discretion to highlight their success and promote their high street as a place to visit and do business, and share what they have done with others.

The Association of Town & City Management (ATCM) will provide targeted support in creating place-based branding to all winners.

The Awards are open to Town Teams, or recognised local partnerships, including Business Improvement Districts (BIDs), Town Centre Partnerships or Community Interest Companies, across England, Scotland and Wales.

Note: Individual persons or businesses are unable to enter the Awards. The focus is on the successes local partnerships have achieved on their high streets.

The 2014 deadline for applications is 1 August 2014.

So the question is, should Audlem village centre bid for this award? Please feel free to add your comment or opinion below.....
