We have undoubtedly benefitted from exceptional weather conditions this year evidenced in no small part by the glorious arboricultural landscape that has bloomed around us. Now we are well into Autumn, hedgerows are full, the leaves are mostly fallen and crops are being harvested.
This is all as it should be. However, autumn can cause some problems for road users and for those walking along the highway. Audlem Parish Council has had to contact Highways at Cheshire East where overgrown hedgerows are encroaching upon the highway and, as a result, CEC has issued several hedge and tree notices to private landowners.
Cheshire East Highways has asked Audlem PC to remind landowners that they have a responsibility to keep hedges cut back from the highway and to keep the road clear of mud deposits at all times. This is especially true during harvesting in order to avoid danger to both motorists and pedestrians.
Cheshire East has also advised us that they will look to recover any expenses incurred if they are required to intervene, by sending in road sweepers, where landowners have failed to clear up mud on the roads.
