Howard Hilton reports: "About 40 people from our three churches met at the Methodist Church car-park on the morning of Good Friday last week to walk around the village to witness to their Christian faith. Young people from the Methodist "Seekers" group carried a cross and presented readings from the Easter Gospel story before we started and at each of the places where we stopped.

"The route took us first down the Wharf road to the Shroppie Fly and Mill Shop, our first stop for a reading. The weather was fine and the daffodils on the canal bank looked lovely. Then we returned and walked through the village centre and down Vicarage Lane to The Green, for another stop. Next it was along to the main road and across, to walk up Heathfield Road to Little Heath. Here the wind got up and the sky darkened.

"We turned down Cheshire Street to St James's, where we gathered around the War Memorial for our final reading. Just as the Gospel was recounting how at the hour of crucifixion the skies darkened, so they did for us, and the event concluded in a gust of sleet and strong wind. But we bore witness before dispersing, the adults for a warm drink but the young people to continue their 'fasting for charity'."
