The Glory of Christmas is playing to a full house on both nights and the story of the first Christmas and the birth of Jesus unfolds.

The evening begins in a light hearted manner with children as reindeers singing "Rudolph the red nosed reindeer" as Father Christmas arrives with his trusty elf and distributes presents to the choir. (They have not been on the naughty step then!)

Then three narrators start the unfolding of the amazing story of the birth of Christ. How the angel Gabriel announced to the virgin Mary that she would give birth to the Son of God.

The children acted out the story with such confidence and joy from Herod, wise men, angels little devils and Mary (Isobel Maughan) and Joseph (Patrick Birnbecker).

The choir in very festive dress, told the story in such beautiful music. It was ably accompanied by the musical director Naomi Newman and her soloist husband Toby.

The virgin Mary sang a beautiful solo in a voice just like Chris Webb's ( we suspect some collusion here!)

The evening concluded in a darkened room with the choir humming Silent Night to a moving line drawing depicting the life of Christ. Very emotive.

As is fitting with the Story of Christmas the church window sills are decorated with poppies in remembrance of the Christmas truce in 1914 during the Great War

Thank you to Nancy-May and Naomi, helpers, all members of the cast and choir for a wonderful evening.

We look forward to tomorrow night.
