A brand new food and drink festival, 'The Ginger and Spice Festival', celebrating the culinary, heritage and historical links of spices, food and gingerbread, to the town of Market Drayton, Shropshire, will be taking place from Wednesday 27th September to Saturday 30th September 2017 for the first time.
The Ginger and Spice Festival features well known Shropshire chefs, James Sherwin of Wild-Shropshire & Chris Burt of the Mytton and Mermaid, BBC Radio Gardening and chilli expert, Zdeněk Valkoun-Walker, Comedian Chef, George Egg, musician, Heidi Browne, plus artisan food and street food traders, face painting and educational activities for children such as Clive's Secret Spice Box! There will also be a Spice Trail around the town with a fabulous prize draw of a two night stay in Pezenas, France -- the town which is twinned with Market Drayton!
Chef James Sherwin will also be leading a wild foraging trail around the town.
Including such creative, imaginative and hilarious acts will set the tone for the festival which aims to use the creative arts as a bridge to the local history & culinary heritage of the town as education for families and festival goers to engage with.
The brand new Festival, which has been backed by the Market Drayton Town Council, and also sponsored by local businesses such as Image on Food, Billington's Gingerbread, Clive & Coffyne Pub and RockIT Events, is positioned as a community event and will take place over four days.
The festival aims to encourage locals to re-connect with the town's food heritage and history, as well as attracting new visitors to the town who are interested in food, history, culture and travel. It is also hoped that passing canal traffic will attend the festival.
The aim is to grow the festival and for it to be an annual event which will boost visitors to the town and generate more business for locals shops, restaurants, cafes and pubs.
