Regular readers of Chatbox will have noticed a host of posts about a foul smell, particularly in the evenings, in the Buerton area. As it seems difficult to get environment officers to the area out of hours, we thought a news story on the smell might encourage some action as many at Cheshire East Council are regular readers.
A Chatbox post yesterday said: "We have been experiencing this noxious smell for weeks now and it has just reared its ugly head again! It is absolutely disgusting, especially in the heat of late afternoons, evenings and during the night, when you need to have your windows open for fresh air, which you cannot, making it most uncomfortable.
"Living in a country environment for years and moving to this area recently, we have never encountered a smell like it...reminds me of the old gasworks smell of years gone by.
"It needs to be investigated asap and dealt with as a matter of urgency...hopefully the Environment Agency will act swiftly!"
Another local resident said: "It was bad last night at Kinsey Heath too whilst the air was still. The original poster indicated some knowledge of the source, is it possible to eloborate? This is no cow smell, and the nearest agricultural cause I can ever remember such a horrible odour emanating from is Pigs, but I know of no intensive pig rearing in the area.
"The smell is sulphurous for sure and reminiscent of many industrial processes I experienced in my working life. I believe washing red diesel uses sulhuric acid – has anyone considered this.
"I have added my concerns to the Council – if officers will not come out during the evening then the matter needs taking up with our elected member – this may be harmful to health and not just nuisance and they have an obligation to deal with it."
Another post said: "The smell was unbearable last night and this morning around Chapel End, so I have e-mailed the Council and cc'd Stephen O'Brien too! He's acknowledged already, let's just see how long it takes for the Council to respond to my e-mail! If the pong is getting too much for you, then here are the email details to get in touch.

Stephen O'Brien MP email: obriens@parliament.uk
Maybe a large number of complaints going in to the authorities will get somebody to do something. Here's hoping.......
