Today , in between funerals, I helped Neil and Pam Goodyear in the removal of the flags we have had flying here since mid May as we geared up for the big events we put on each year, beginning as we do with the Music and Arts festival. Now as you see they are looking careworn after months of wind , rain and very hot temperatures.
We have been flying the flags every year since the year 2000 when we heralded the New Millennium.
Now, they make way for Neil, Pam and the ADAS team to put in place the over 60 small trees in the vacated brackets in readiness for the Big Switch on -- November 30th. When the biggest and most magnificent tree around all the towns and villages ,given freely by David and Angela Allison of Hatherton, will be lit as Santa arrives with his elves on the canal.
And flying bravely over all is the brand new flag of St George atop the church tower, bought from the many generous donations made by caring folks , both near and from afar. The new Union flag was flying there for the Remembrance Sunday just gone.
