Thursday night saw eleven local volunteers interested in being First Responders meet in Audlem with North West Ambulance Service area training manager Robert Hussey. They heard a detailed description of how they can help in vital potentially life-saving aid in an emergency such as a heart attack.

Thirteen weeks of training – in total approximately 27 hours – will be provided by the NWAS, with volunteers learning how to operate, for example, portable defibrillators. These can be positioned in a number of locations in the area as their use by a First Responder within minutes of a heart attack is critical.

At the meeting, Parish Council representatives received assurances that the introduction of a First Responder service in Audlem would see no reduction in ambulance attendance. All the volunteers took away application packs and it has hoped many will go forward on to the training programme.
