Cheshire Fire & Rescue Service is distributing a leaflet to Audlem homes in a drive to promote fire safety in the home. Householders can ask for a Free Home Safety Assessment by ringing 0800 389 0053.

The leaflet says over 500 deaths and 11,000 injuries result from domestic fires each year and many could have been prevented if smoke alarms had been installed. It's suggested you have at least one smoke detector and preferably two, that they are checked once a month, the batteries are replaced in line with the manufacturer's instructions and that you know how to respond if the detector activates.

The four main causes of domestic fires, the leaflet says, are cookers left unattended; chip pans; electrical equipment and smoking materials. If you want your free fire safety assessment, call now on 0800 389 0053. As the Fire Service says in the leaflet: "Call Us Now, Don't Pay Later."
