Our Harvest Service on Tuesday was a wonderful celebration of all of the children and staff's hard work and it was lovely to share it with so many relatives. Thank you once again for the kind donations sent into school to support Nantwich Foodbank.

A visit from the Audlem Fire Fighters formed part of Key Stage One's work on the topic "Fire and Light" and involved helping to educate the children about people in and around the community who keep us safe. The fire fighters showed us how important it is for the children to know how to respond in an emergency and how to keep themselves safe. Working with the team allowed the children to have the opportunity to learn these safety messages in a safe, fun way. The children would like to share with you two important messages:

  • Always check that your fire alarm has a new battery and is working
  • Talk to your family about what to do in the event of a fire. Have a plan!

The children learned about the role of the fire fighter and they enjoyed trying on the uniform. They were given a tour of the fire engine and found out about the equipment and what it is used for. They also had the opportunity to practise their aim by trying to knock a ball off the top of a cone using the fire hoses to squirt water! A BIG THANK YOU from the children and staff to the fire fighters who made this such a special experience.

Mrs Hayward and Mrs Gavin treated us to a themed 'Come Lunch with Me' lunch on Thursday – the children enjoyed the delicious treats on offer and great fun was had by all!

We said farewell to Mrs Lloyd this week as she leaves to take a well earned rest from her many years in her role as Mid Day Assistant at our school. We thank her for all of her dedication to her role over the years and for all the help she has given children throughout lunchtimes at our school.

Our Year 4 and 5 children travelled to Brine Leas High School on Thursday to rehearse for their special 'Popera 2017' performance next term. They all learnt a range of new songs and I know they will be working hard to learn all of the words with Mrs Stoker over the coming months. I look forward to hearing their rehearsals!

Lily Grange and Jem Sheppard accompanied Mr Davies to a Safer Schools Partnership E-Safety day at Cheshire Police Headquarters in Winsford yesterday for further training in their role as e-Safety Champions. They spent time learning about staying safe online and are looking forward to sharing their new knowledge and promoting awareness of e-safety through different events and competitions.

Congratulations to Edie Simon and Dorina Banfalvi, the two winners of the poster competition for gender equality organised by our Global Ambassadors.

This week's Praise Book children are:

  • Mrs Maughan's Class – Billy Fellows
  • Mrs Hayward's Class – Jasmine Baddeley
  • Mrs Richardson's and Mrs Burgess' Class – Archie Saunders
  • Mr Perry's Class – Oliver Quigley
  • Mr Davies' Class – William Reade
  • Mrs Stoker's Class – Kelsie Harthern Mrs Bird's Class – Max Youle
  • Congratulations to you all!

Sporting News
36 of our KS2 children participated in a Nantwich Schools Cross Country Competition on Tuesday held on Malbank School's playing fields. All of the children competed with determination and resilience, and Mrs Stoker and Mrs Standley were very proud of their impressive performances. Many of our children were in the top 10 for their Year group. Well done to you all!

On Thursday 6th October Year 5 and 6 children took part in a Rugby Festival at Crewe Vagrants where they played against all schools in our local area. The children were exceptional and played in the spirit of the game. Mr Perry would like to say how proud he was of them.

ABC Childcare
A reminder that if you require holiday club cover, breakfast club and after school club care, please feel free to visit ABC to speak to a member of staff or get in touch on 01270 748081. The team are always happy to help.

Parent/Teacher Meetings
Letters about our first Parent evenings of this school year have been sent home in school bags this week. Representatives from our Governing Body will be available during these evenings for parents to speak to and share thoughts and views about school issues with. I hope many of you are able to take this opportunity to meet with them as well as with class teachers.

Open Morning in School
A reminder that we will be holding an Open Morning in school on Tuesday 11th October for prospective parents from 9.15am – 11.30am – please spread the word. This Open Morning is for prospective parents who do not already have a child attending our school.

As in previous years, we are holding a series of sessions for parents with children already in our school throughout the year. These sessions are for current parents to come in and get a feel for learning in our school.

Polite reminders
In the interests of health and safety we ask that no dogs be brought on to school grounds at drop off and pick up time (carried or walking on a lead). I would also ask that all dog owners are mindful of children and families when using the public footpath running alongside our school car park and ABC Childcare; please ensure all dogs are kept on leads on the public footpath at all times.

Calling All Potential Fire Fighters!
Cheshire East Fire and Rescue Service are looking for On Call Fire fighters to join their dedicated teams. The role provides the opportunity to earn an additional income in the region of £5,000 per year and is a great way to support the local community.

Information leaflets about this exciting opportunity were sent home in school bags earlier this week and are available from the Main Entrance area in school. If you would like to find out more visit www.cheshirefire.gov.uk or email recruitment@cheshirefire.gov.uk or call 01606 868495.

Reception New Starters September 2017
A reminder that the admissions window for applications for September 2017 is open and parents and carers can apply for a place at our school via Cheshire East Council's website at: http://www.cheshireeast.gov.uk/schools/admissions/admissions.aspx

ADAS has asked me to advertise their table top sale on Saturday 15th October from 10.00 am in the public hall. There are still tables available at £5. Please call Bryony on 811705 to book a table.

Finally
Our next Parent Forum meeting will take place on Wednesday 23rd November from 9.15am – 10.15am. I will be meeting with the Chair and Secretary of the Forum soon after half term to finalise agenda items.

Please let me know if you have any ideas for discussion at this meeting by emailing me directly or sending a message via the school office.
